Driver Involved In Fatal 2016 Accident Pleads Guilty

CHARLOTTE, NC — The woman charged with second-degree murder after a fatal drunk driving accident in 2016 pleaded guilty Thursday.

Kelly Conkin was sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to the charge in court.

According to reports, Conkin was driving drunk in southwest Charlotte back in August when officers say she hit a curb on South Tryon, crossed two lanes of traffic, and hit another vehicle head on. A passenger in the other car, Cecelia Gonzalez, was killed as a result. Three other people were also injured in the accident.

Conkin was originally charged with second-degree murder, felony death by motor vehicle, felony serious injury by motor vehicle, reckless driving and possession of marijuana.
