Kristine Zell is an Emmy award winning news anchor who has been in the broadcasting business for more than a decade. She is thrilled to join the Rising team and be back on morning TV.
Kristine grew up in Minnesota and later left the chilly Midwest for Southern California where she graduated from Pepperdine University with a degree in Broadcast News. During college, Kristine was preparing for her future career as a reporter and anchor at her college-owned station News Waves 26, Malibu’s local news.
Kristine started her journey in TV news at the NBC affiliate, KARE 11, in Minneapolis, MN. As a teenager, she became a co-host and reporter for “Whatever,” the award winning magazine show for teens. During her nearly seven years on the show, she covered sports, local news and entertainment. Kristine interviewed hundreds of celebrities during international press junkets. Her favorite celeb interviews include, Julie Andrews, Will Ferrell and Cameron Diaz.
Kristine began her “hard news” career at KIMT News 3 in Mason City, IA. At the CBS affiliate, she produced and anchored the “Daybreak” morning show. Two years later she moved down the road to Cedar Rapids, IA to become the co-anchor of “CBS 2 This Morning” and the anchor of “CBS 2 News at Noon” where she covered the Iowa caucuses and other political news.
Kristine left the Midwest (again) to follow her now-husband to beautiful Myrtle Beach, SC. There she became the co-host of Not the News (an entertainment show modeled after News Edge). She also landed her first radio gig on the all-talk news show, “The Hot Talk Morning Show on WRNN 99.5 FM.”
Now the journey continues in the Queen City and she couldn’t be more excited to be living in Charlotte.
During her free time, she enjoys traveling with her hubby, exploring different neighborhoods while walking her dog Turbo, running half marathons and trying new restaurants (she loves receiving suggestions so send ’em her way).
