Cam Newton Criticized Over Comment To Reporter

Cam Newton gets sacked after his sexist reply to a sports reporter.
Cam’s comments came during his regular Wednesday press conference.
The Charlotte Observer’s Jourdan Rodrigue asked a valid and seemingly routine question about Devin Funchess’ route-running ability.
Jourdan Rodrigue said, “I know you take a lot of pride in seeing your receivers play well. Devin Funchess has seemed to really embrace the physicality of his routes and getting those extra yards. Does that give you a little bit of enjoyment to see him kind of truck sticking people out there?”
Cam Newton smiled and replied, “It’s funny to hear a female talk about routes, like its funny.”

Rodrigue responded on Twitter: I don’t think it’s ‘funny’ to be a female and talk about routes. I think it’s my job.
She also released this statement:
“I was dismayed by his response, which not only belittled me but countless other women before me and beside me who work in similar jobs. I sought Mr. Newton out as he left the locker room a few minutes later. He did not apologize for his comments.”

Cam has yet to comment, but Panthers spokesman Steven Drummond tells WCCB:
“I have spoken with Jourdan and Cam and I know they had a conversation where he expressed regret for using those words. We strive as a department to make the environment for media comfortable for everyone covering the team.”
