Men Pried Way Into CLT Home, Attacked Woman

Charlotte, NC — Police are searching for two men who pried their way into an East Charlotte home and violently attacked the woman inside.

“It’s very frightening, and I can’t imagine the terror that she went through,” said one neighbor, Donna Hartley.

It happened just after 11:00 Thursday night in Hartford Village.

Police say once the men pried their way into the home, they bound her, raped her and stole $1,200 in television equipment. A neighbor told WCCB Charlotte the woman ran next-door to her home for help.

Police say the 39-year-old woman did not know the attackers. They face charges of forcible rape, theft, burglary and kidnapping. That’s a charge police sy is sometimes given when attackers move you from room to room.

People who have lived in the neighborhood for decades say it’s mostly immune to crime in Charlotte. Many say this attack is prompting them to install security cameras.
