The City of Charlotte is getting ready to party like it's 1775!

CHARLOTTE, NC — From celebrating the Queen City’s unofficial independence day, to free summer concerts – there’s a lot going on in Charlotte!

Come celebrate Charlotte’s revolutionary history at the Square on Friday, May 19. There will be 18th Century reenactors, cannon fire, a reading of excerpts from the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence and short remarks from city and county officials.

Spirit Square

Blumenthal Performing Arts has begun their new Sounds on the Square FREE summer concert and movie series. The series runs every Friday night from now through the end of August. A variety of local musicians will perform from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the Square at Spirit Square, located at 345 North College St.

This Friday features: Dixieland sounds with The New Dixie Pharaohs. Movies will be added to the lineup later in the summer and begin at dusk. Concessions and beverages will be available for purchase and don’t forget to bring your own lawn chair! The events will be moved indoors if there is inclement weather. Tryon Street in Uptown Charlotte

Circle K Speed Street presented by Coca-Cola will be rocking the streets of Charlotte May 25-27 with live entertainment, access to racing’s brightest stars, giveaways and interactive displays. Each day starting at noon, festival attendees will gather on Tryon Street in Uptown Charlotte to enjoy vendor displays, kid’s activities, racing-related fun and more until 8 p.m. Then local, regional and national headliners will take the Coca-Cola stage starting at approximately 6:30p.m. Tickets are only $15 to enjoy Friday and Saturday night headliners and $10 for Thursday night entertainment. All other activities are free!
