Garinger High School Student Tased after Allegedly Assaulting Girlfriend

CHARLOTTE, NC – Parents disturbed to learn about a violent attack that happened at their kids’ school Monday.

17-year-old Garinger High School student Jamari White is accused of assaulting his 16-year-old girlfriend at an entrance to the school off Sugar Creek Road.

“I don’t know how that would actually start off or you know end up in that situation anyway,” says parent Crystal Davis.

Two school resource officers responded but police say White refused to stop and attacked the officers.

One deployed her taser but was unsuccessful. A second officer then deployed his before White complied.

“These types of behaviors are being normalized… earlier,” explains Alex Pyun, with Mecklenburg County Support Services.

Pyun says while the suspect and victim in this case seem young.. “Actually the biggest age group for dating abuse is 16-24,” he says.

Pyun goes into high schools teaching kids how to avoid abusive behavior.. which he says can start as early as middle school.

“Teaching teens what boundaries are, teaching teens how to compromise, communication skills,” Pyun says.

Still what happened Monday is troubling and surprising to students at Garinger.
