Four Arrested For Cock Fighting In Rowan County

Rowan County, N.C. — Four men have been arrested in Rowan County,  after an investigation into cock fighting claims.

Victor Manuel Garcia, 37;  Manuel Villa Ocampo, 36; Marcial Clemente Rodriguez, 35; and Rogelio Leonardo Calderas, 44, have all been charged with Felony Cock Fighting.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office says several anonymous calls were made regarding possible chicken fights at a residence in the 600 block of Geneva Drive in Rockwell, North Carolina.

Investigating officers noticed several vehicles in the yard of the residence.  Officers say,  upon their arrival,  15 to 20 men ran into the woods behind the house.

More deputies were called to the scene and the ensuing investigation revealed several chickens tied to the back of vehicles.   Reports say deputies  found blood and feathers on the ground as well as dead chickens.

A number of live chickens were caged in a fenced area, and chicken fighting paraphernalia was also discovered.

Rowan County Animal Control collected over 30 live chickens and more than 15 dead chickens from the scene.

All four men are due in court on Monday, May 15th.
