NASCAR Fan Wins Experience Of A Lifetime While Benefiting A Great Cause

CHARLOTTE, NC — NASCAR fan Lisa Asselin will spend the Charlotte All-Star race weekend living like an Earnhardt, thanks to an online auction contest.

Asselin won the eBay auction on May 5th with a bid of just under $10,000.

The package for two includes a three-night stay at Dale Jr.’s  home on Lake Norman, two grandstand tickets to the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, pit and garage passes prior to the race, a behind-the-scenes tour of JR Motorsports, a track swag bag filled with goodies like a JR Motorsports Crew Shirt, and a meet-and-greet with Dale Jr. himself. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Dale Jr. Foundation, according to the listing.

Growing up in Maine, Asselin says her first race experience was at her hometown track called Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. It was there that she instantly fell in love with the sport, and says that by the early 90’s she was hooked on NASCAR.

Asselin says she was an instant fan of NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Sr. His driving style and attitude were reminiscent her of her hometown favorite, Homer Drew, and kept her glued to every race. Asselin says she started following the legend’s son, Dale Jr., when Dale Sr. was tragically killed during the final lap of the 2001 Daytona 500.

All packed and ready to go… I am not anxious lol…. ONLY 6 MORE DAYS….

Even though she won’t arrive in Charlotte until May 18, Asselin says she is already packed and ready to go. When asked what she was looking forward to most, she said, “finally meeting Dale Jr. ’cause I am, and will always be, an Earnhardt fan even after he retires.”

There’s no denying Asselin’s dedication to the Earnhardt name. While most fans tend to wear their support on their sleeves or on a ball cap, Asselin wears hers on her body. She sports 10 tattoos that forever illustrate her commitment to numbers 03 and 88.

This isn’t the first NASCAR contest that Asselin has won. She says she also won a trip for her and her daughter to the 2013 NASCAR Awards Ceremony in Las Vegas.
