Officials Identify Lancaster Woman Killed After Tree Falls On Mobile Home

LANCASTER, SC — A 66-year-old woman was killed Thursday afternoon when a tree fell on her mobile home, pinning her inside.

Officials say Colleen Burgess was in her bedroom on Pageland Highway near Coot Sistare Road when high winds uprooted a tree in the back yard and pushed it over onto the home.  Colleen’s husband was cooking in the kitchen, located on the other side of the home, when the tree fell, according to reports. He managed to escape, but Colleen was pinned under the tree.

It took crews several hours to secure the large oak tree before they could remove her body.

The Lancaster County Coroner, Karla Deese, said Colleen died of blunt force trauma.

Officials say gusts of 48mph were reported in the area at the time the tree fell.
