6 tips to keep your car paint job like-new this spring

car care tipsWhen it comes to car upkeep, there are quite a few things under the hood that need to be maintained, serviced, and eventually replaced. However, do you include aesthetic elements in your list of to-dos for vehicle upkeep? One big thing you’ll want to add to your list is your car paint job. Keeping the paint on your vehicle in good shape helps it to look newer than its age, and also helps to boost resale value so when you sell it later on, you’ll get more bang for your buck.

Check out the tips our Charlotte auto body shop recommends

Toyota of N Charlotte’s body shop techs sat down with us to give us some tips on how to keep up your car paint job. Let’s take a closer look at what they had to say!

Tip #1: Wash your ride regularly. This will help to get rid of dust, dirt, and grime that would otherwise damage your car paint job. Our Charlotte body shop techs recommend giving your car a good scrub-down every two weeks to keep things looking like new.

Tip #2: Rinse your car regularly if you live near the beach. There’s more salt in the air near the coast, and it can have a negative effect on your car paint job. You should rinse your vehicle in between wash weeks to get any salt residue off.

Tip #3: Get your car on a waxing schedule. You’ll want to apply a quality wax to your ride every 3-4 months to protect your car paint job from the sun, as well as from minor scratches caused by dirt and debris. Our Charlotte Toyota Parts store offers a great selection of waxes, and our associates can help you choose the right one for your car.

Tip #4: Maintain your clear coat. The clear coat is added over your paint job by the factory in order to protect your car’s color from fading and scratches. You can tell you need a touchup (or even a new clear coat altogether) if the clear coat is peeling or flaking off. Call our Charlotte auto body shop today to schedule an appointment!

Protect your car paint job from the elements

Tip #5: Quickly scrub off debris. If you find sap, bird droppings, or other debris stuck on your car, scrub it off as quickly as you can! Leaving this type of debris on your car can quickly eat away at the paint and leave you with expensive repairs.

Tip #6: Park under cover. If you can park in the garage, perfect! If you can find shade under a carport, that’s excellent too. And if all else fails, try to park under trees! It’ll at least protect your car paint job from UV rays that can fade it.
