Mother Sentenced For Kidnapping Daughter During Lincolnton Home Invasion

LINCOLNTON, N.C. — A mother has been sentenced to serve five to seven years in prison for kidnapping her daughter during a home invasion.

Investigators say Debra Matney, 41, of Lincolnton, and four other individuals were involved in a home invasion, robbery and kidnapping of Matney’s 18-year-old daughter on August 19th, 2015.

Officials say the suspects covered the girl’s face, took her from the home and drove her to multiple locations, using her debit card to withdraw funds.

The victim reportedly identified her mother’s voice during the kidnapping.  Investigators say surveillance video from a store helped identify two of the co-defendants and a third person helped investigators arrest the other two suspects.

Matney told investigators she was trying to teach her daughter a lesson.  One of the co-defendants is already serving prison time for the offenses.  The other three have pending court dates on charges related to the offenses.
