Man Arrested After Posing As Deputy, Threatening A Victim, And Stabbing Their Car

IREDELL COUNTY, NC — A 51-year-old Statesville man is facing multiple charges including Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Impersonating Law Enforcement.

Deputies say Jimmy Ayers was arrested and charged Thursday with AWDW, Communicating Threats, Injury to Personal Property, and Impersonate Law Enforcement.

Detectives say Ayers, armed with a Bouie knife, identified himself to a victim on February 27th as law enforcement searching for a wanted woman. Ayers convinced the victim to let him search the their car, and began stabbing property when no woman was found. Officials say Ayers then threatened the victim when asked to stop and show some ID.

The victim was able to escape in the car, according to reports, and was not injured.

Ayers has also been charged with Assault on a Female, officials say, after a fight with his wife on March 1st.

According to records, Ayers has been convicted of numerous offenses including four counts of DWI, four counts of Driving While License Revoked, two counts Simple Worthless Check, Fictitious Information to Officer and Resist/Obstruct Officer.
