CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police say the man accused of hitting a pedestrian with his vehicle and driving off has turned himself in.
Jeffery Laforce is accused of hitting Jessica Morrell while she was walking on South Tryon Street near Bland Street just after 9pm on Saturday.
Witnesses reportedly told police that Laforce’s Dodge Avenger struck Morrell while she was crossing the road in the crosswalk. Witnesses also told police that Laforce ran a red light prior to hitting Morrell.
Cameras in the area were able to capture Laforce’s license plate number. Police say Laforce turned himself in early Sunday morning and has been charged with felony hit and run.
Morrell remains hospitalized at Carolinas Medical Center in critical condition. The crash is still under investigation to determine if alcohol or drug use and excessive speed were contributing factors.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call 911.
