Brave 6 more weeks of winter with our top 6 car hacks

N Charlotte Toyota tipsThe groundhog saw his shadow this morning, which means spring is still a ways off – to be exact, we’re in for about six more weeks of winter. However, we’ve got car hacks straight from our N Charlotte Toyota experts to help you brave the weather and make the most of the cold. Let’s get started!

These winter car hacks will help you brave the cold

Tip #1: Invest in kitty litter, even if you don’t have cats. Kitty litter is great for spreading on the ground under your N Charlotte Toyota to give it traction if you find yourself stuck in snow or ice. You can also add some to a sock and use it to wipe the interior of your windshield, effectively doing away with that foggy mess so you can see where you’re going.

Tip #2: Be ready to de-ice your windshield. A simple car hack? Use a vinegar and water solution poured over the glass (NOT hot water) to thaw it quickly. (Or you can just buy an ice scraper from our Toyota of N Charlotte parts store – we have a variety so you can choose the one that works best for you.) Another car hack to reduce the work of scraping ice off the windshield is to park your car so it’s facing east – the sun rises in the east, so it’ll help heat things up and melt the ice a little before you start scraping.

Tip #3: Protect your car. Did you know that putting a pair of socks over your N Charlotte Toyota’s windshield can keep them from freezing and becoming damaged? You can also use gallon-sized plastic bags as a car hack – put them over your side mirrors to prevent ice from forming on them and you can just remove them when it’s time to hit the road.

Tip #4: Use hand sanitizer for more than just staving off colds and flu – did you know it can actually help de-ice a frozen lock? Squirt it into your car’s frozen door locks to thaw them quickly and safely.

Tip #5: Keep extra socks in your new Toyota near Charlotte. Not only can you use them to keep your wipers from freezing, you can also slide them on over your shoes while you’re shoveling and de-icing to keep your feet dry and warm.

Tip #6: Use a can of Pam to keep your door seals from freezing! It’s oil-based, so it won’t freeze and will keep your doors from being frozen shut (and also prevent the rubber from being damaged by the cold).
