Wilson’s World: Raising Awareness for Children’s Oral Health with #SmileDriveCLT
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – #SmileDriveCLT is kicking off today with a little help from Wilson and his bullhorn. He was waking up the neighbors early today as he was lending a helping hand at today’s Smile Drive Thru at South Park Mall.
Smile Drive was created by , America’s ToothFairy: National Children’s Oral Health Foundation. Held during February which is National Children’s Dental Health Month, the drive works to raise awareness to children’s oral health while collecting oral health products for children in need.
Smile Drive Charlotte is working to ensure that the nearly 50,000 children living in poverty in Mecklenburg County will receive a new toothbrush by February 28th. Today is the kick-off for their #SmileDriveClt and their first of many events in the area to make sure this happens.
Classroom Central works closely with Smile Drive Charlotte as the teachers they work with are the adults who see first hand the need for better oral health for their students. Pediatric dental disease is the most common chronic childhood illness in America. Smile Drive is working to prevent it by supplying toothbrushes, toothpaste and oral health products.
#SmileDriveCLT’s Smile Drive Thru will continue until 10am today. The community is asked to stop by and drop off toothbrushes and toothpaste. If you can’t stop in this morning, #SmileDriveCLT will be holding more events during the month of February, check out their weblink HERE for information on all of these events.
