Charlotte N.C. – Five reports have been issued to CMPD of a door-to-door cookie sales scam.
The complaints came from people who thought they were supporting a school by purchasing cookies, pizza kits, popcorn, etc. yet, never received their product.
Charlotte Mecklenburg Police are urging caution when making purchase from someone you don’t know. CMPD also reports that suspects involved in these scams have been using children to make their sales.
CMPD officials encourage citizens to follow these guidelines to ensure that they do not fall victim to these crimes.
- Never pay cash.
- Make your check out to the organization you are supporting, not the individual selling the product.
- If you have a question, call the school or organization sponsoring the fundraiser.
- Call 911, if you encounter a suspicious individual soliciting in your neighborhood.
