One Suspect Arrested, Two Still Wanted In Statesville Assault Case

STATESVILLE, NC — Police say they have arrested one suspect in a December assault and shots fired case.

Police say 24-year-old Joshua Sylvester was arrested for chasing and shooting at two suspects who attacked him outside of a store on Davie Avenue around 3pm on December 5th. The other two suspects waited for Sylvester to come out of the store, according to reports, and then attacked him. Sylvester got to his vehicle and retrieved a gun, at which point he began chasing and shooting at the suspects.

Witnesses told police the two attackers got in a vehicle and took off. No one was injured in the shooting.

Sylvester was arrested on Tuesday and charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Discharging a Firearm Inside City Limits.

Police say one of the attackers was identified as 23-year-old Terrance Smith, of Statesville. A warrant for Simple Assault has been issued on Smith.

Both Smith and the other unidentified suspect are still wanted by police.
