Greg Olsen Wins $25,000 for Charity in Social Media Challenge
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — After immense support from Panthers fans, along with celebrities such as Dwayne Johnson and William Shatner, Greg Olsen won $25,000 for his charitable foundation on Sunday night.
Olsen was the Panthers’ nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, given annually to a player for his excellence on and off the field. His charity, HEARTest Yard Fund, works in conjunction with the Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, providing families of children affected by congenital heart disease with a multitude of services.
A charity challenge was issued by the NFL to raise awareness of and support for all of the nominees. Fans can post on social media using their favorite nominee’s unique hashtag and the nominee with the most hashtags will receive $25,000 for the charity of his choice.
Olsen’s unique tag, #OlsenWPMOYChallenge, managed to be re-posted across multiple platforms over one million times.
The winner of the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award will be announced the night before the Super Bowl.
