Taking a road trip this holiday season? It can be stressful hitting the highway – there’s a lot to think about, and the holiday season means winter weather conditions AND more traffic on the roads. Why not make things easier in any way that you can? We’re sharing N Charlotte Toyota car-packing hacks and road trip tips to help ensure your ride stays organized, clean and efficient when you take off – let’s get started!
Our road trip tips and car packing hacks make travel stress-free!
Hack #1: Make the kids a to-go kit. The easiest way to do this is to pick up a few large pencil pouches from the dollar store; fill them with coloring supplies, toys, and snacks. Just remember – don’t put anything in there that poses a choking hazard! These to-go kits will keep things organized, and you can simply hand them out as you hit the highway and enjoy the peace and quiet.
Hack #2: Buy a plastic cereal container and line it with a plastic grocery bag – voila. You now have a trash can! This will help keep your car clean, and at rest stops you can simply pull the bag out and throw it all away. Be sure to keep extra bags in your N Charlotte Toyota so you can replace them. This road trip tip will help prevent spills and stains.
Hack #3: Use a shower caddy and a shoe organizer to keep things tidy. You can use the shower caddy in the cargo area to ensure your extra windshield wiper fluid, antifreeze, and other emergency auto service fluids stay upright (and our N Charlotte Toyota techs recommend you have these on hand, just in case!). Hang the show organizer on the back of a seat and use it to store snacks, toys, and first aid supplies so they’re within easy reach.

Hack #4: Stock up on dryer sheets. You can keep an open box in your car, under a seat or somewhere else that’s out of the way, and your ride will stay smelling fresh now matter how far you travel. Trust us, this is one road trip tip you’ll want to use! Also, use those aforementioned plastic bags to store dirty laundry… and tie them shut.
Hack #5: Be sure to bring plenty of change and small bills for tolls. Your best bet is to store your money in a mason jar; it’ll fit in a cupholder and you can keep a lid on it to avoid scrambling for change under the seat. You can also use a muffin liner in a cupholder to hold change if need be!
