The Watch with Will Kennedy: CMPD Teams Up with Local Barber Shop
CHARLOTTE, NC — A local barbershop and CMPD’s North Tryon division are taking the next step toward building better community relations.
Da Lucky Spot on North Tryon is holding its Fifth Annual Coat Drive and Carnival, teaming up with CMPD to provide kids with winter coats while trying to change the mindset of young people in the community, teaching young men how to tie their own tie at the event.
“Not only are we teaching the kids how to tie ties, that same tie that they learned how to tie it with, we gonna let them have it,” said Da Lucky Spot owner Shaun Corbett. “We going to send them home with a shirt and tie.”
“For them to come in and interact with the police and other community leaders, get some exposure into some of that career path and learn some of the life skills they need to take it to the next step, it’s vital,” said Capt. Rob Dance of CMPD.
The event takes place Wednesday, January 20th from 6-8pm at the Sugar Creek Rec. Center. You can donate coats, shirts and ties at Da Lucky Spot or CMPD’s North Tryon Division.
